The Gravest Transition

March 28, 2026•1 min read

In caring for those in their weakest moments, there is the looming presence of death. Death, which becomes more familiar to me with each passing day. How fragile we all truly are. As death becomes a fragmented portion of my daily life, I learn to find the beauty in caring for those who will enter its grasp.

The transition period between the living and the land of the gone can be tranquil. Hearing people's last words, last requests, last fears, and lasting impressions. I am honored to share these moments with people. Who am I to share such moments? These are people's mothers, brothers, fathers, sisters, and siblings. In these moments, I take the form of someone who should be with them. I am the child, I am the partner, I am the sibling, I am the parent, and I soak in their words as though I spent a lifetime with them.

I thank the universe for providing me a glimpse into limbo, however painful it can be.

Death need not be feared when love fills every crevice of my heart.
